As York’s thriving tech scene expands, so do the number of technology-focused events! To help you navigate a jam-packed 2019 we’ve put together a handy guide to every tech event, meetup or conference within the city.

Regular Meetups/Events

Science City York/Tech York

Tasked with promoting innovation in the creative, digital and bioscience industries in York, Science City York run a year round events programme including the popular 2018 TedxYork event and Tech York event series.

Windows User Group

The Windows User Group is a national UK non-profit group aimed at educating people on how to get the most from Windows. The group has previously held events in York, however there are events across the UK if you find yourself waiting too long for the next one.

AWS User Group 

Learn about using the latest AWS products and features from industry leaders and peers.

SEO York

This meetup group is perfect for anyone looking to learn more about search engine optimisation, website performance and internet marketing.

York Rail Innovation Community (YoRIC)

The York Rail Innovation Community (YoRIC) exists to connect the depth of rail expertise in York with each other, and with innovative capabilities outside of the rail sector.

They help local organisations with innovative ideas understand the rail industry, and how to engage with it.

CoderDojo York

CoderDojo York provide a monthly coding and making club for young people in the city. They are currently on a break, but hope to be back soon!

York Digital Gurus 

This peer-to-peer network brings together business owners and digital specialists in a relaxed social setting to explore the latest challenges facing businesses with their digital strategies.

York testers is a new group setup to help software testers connect and share their expertise!

Women in Tech York

WiT organises free monthly events for everyone with an interest in, or working in tech around York


ACCU York is a local group of the ACCU, meeting most months to discuss a wide range of topics relating to software development.

York Developers is a registered charity on a mission to advance education for public benefit to the IT and the Software Engineering sector for all age groups through the provision of events and meetings in the city.

York Technology Conference

When: 30th January

York Technology Conference is a one day not-for-profit student event focused on providing the opportunity for students to network with fellow tech enthusiasts and industry leaders. The event includes workshops, talks and the opportunity to pitch your business idea for the chance to win £500.

York Blockchain Development Society

The University of York Blockchain Development and Research Society was formed in 2018. The society aims to get the word out about blockchain, with respect to its applications in the future of economics, law, trade and governments.


Dot York

Perfectly positioned as the “digital conference for curious minds” Dot York is a fascinating conference for anyone involved in the digital industries.

In 2018 the one-day conference included speakers from Atom Bank, Full Fact the Bristol Pound.

PHP Yorkshire Conference

Where: Ron Cooke Hub, The University of York

When: 11th-13th April 2019

Now in its third year, PHP Yorkshire is back with another 3 days of PHP-focused workshops, talks and networking opportunities.

Guild of Media Arts

The Guild of Media arts was formed in 2014 as the lifelong custodian of York’s designation as a UNESCO City of Media Arts.

They run social, networking and skills workshops throughout the year with a focus on digital creativity.

Guild of Entrepreneurs

The York Guild of Entrepreneurs’ mission is to promote excellence in entrepreneurship in York. They run events and meetups to inspire, encourage and support entrepreneurial individuals who have active connections to the city.

York Festival of Ideas

Where: The University of York

When: 4th - 16th June 2019

York Festival of Ideas is one of the largest free festivals in the UK, last year’s festival was enjoyed by over 40,000 people and was the winner of the 2018 award for Large Outstanding Cultural Festival at the York Culture Awards. The Festival offers over 100 free events, including talks from world-class speakers, exhibitions, theatre, music, films, guided walks, family-friendly activities and workshops.

Tribe Talks

Tribe talks focus on bringing entrepreneurs, freelancer and small business owners to hear talks throughout the year from business experts on their honest stories and insights.
